The Boardwalk

One of my old girlfriends from college sells wedding sand ceremony kits on the Venice boardwalk in Los Angeles. Back in school she got straight A’s and was a cheerleader. After graduation she landed a sweet corporate gig that paid her lots of money. But she worked all the time and her marriage eventually crumbled because of it. I had spoken with her after all this and she told me that the thought of having to go back into an office job made her sick to her stomach. She had always been very creative, so she spent the next few months devoting her time to making wedding favors, which is something that her mother had taught her as a child.
Within a matter of weeks she had a full line of stylish products that could be custom made in any color. She put her financial background to work and came up with a business plan. It made sense to sell her wares at flea markets and boardwalks because she wouldn’t have to deal with the overheard of having a physical location. The business quickly took off and I even bought the unity candle for my own wedding from her, which was a really cool thing to do.
